Cowboys Coverage 2023: New Place, Same Face
Welcome to my Dallas Cowboys coverage for the 2023-24 season.
In the words of 5-11, 5-11 and 5-11 head coach Dave Campo, “Let’s have some football!”
Last year I covered the Cowboys for Gallery.com, but in the offseason the site went belly up. That’s what happens when the owner, a furniture mogul, and his son, a marketer for dad, think they know more about running a sports web site, than the people they hire to run it. So, here we are today. I have the same access. The same want to. So, why not keep going. That’s what’s great about how info is delivered and consumed these days.
So, I’m here to provide the same level of coverage, just from a different web address. I am doing it on my own dime, which with what I got paid last year at the above-mentioned failed web site, it is pretty much a wash. This season, I’m completely in charge of this space. There will be no punches pulled. I call it like I see it. It’s going to be old school sports journalism delivered with the speed of the internet.
What you can expect on game day, for those that are new here, is a set of quick observations just minutes after the game ends. Then, a quick analysis of the game the morning after. Every week there will be a game preview, a notebook and a few different other types of stories and listicles along the way. You will know what head coach Mike McCarthy has to say, as well as offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and special teams coordinator John Fassel, and of course the players.
What you won’t get is much from owner Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, or anybody in the Jones family. No matter what you ask them, they are going to give you an answer that probably has nothing to do with the question asked. I’m not here for that nonsense.
So, let’s focus on the football. Here is to a good 2023 season, with plenty to talk/write about.
I appreciate your clicks.
Cowboys Thump Rival Commanders
Here are my 5 observations from the Dallas Cowboys 45-10 Thanksgiving Day win over the Washington Commanders in an NFC East battle at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Game Preview: WAS at DAL
The Dallas Cowboys (7-3) play the Washington Commanders (4-7) in their annual Thanksgiving Day game on Thursday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. A win for the Cowboys is a must to stay in the race for an NFC East title. Get the info you need right here before kickoff.
QUICK HIT TUESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is having a special season, but every season of his career so far has been special. In 2023, he’s vaulting up different record lists for the franchise and the NFL. He will try to keep it going on Thanksgiving Day against Washington at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. That and other bits of info from the Star in this special edition of What’s Up Wednesday.
Cowboys Offense Just Good Enough
Quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb saw their historic runs halted in the Dallas Cowboys win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Good thing they didn’t need them to be heroic for a victory.
Cowboys Prey on Panthers
Here are my 5 observations from the Dallas Cowboys pull-away 33-10 road win over the Carolina Panthers in an NFC conference game on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Game Preview: DAL at CAR
The Dallas Cowboys (6-3) play another team at the bottom of the standings when they face the rebuilding Carolina Panthers (1-8) at noon on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Get the info you need right here before kickoff.
By the Numbers: Carolina Panthers
The Cowboys (6-3) go for a second-straight victory when they take on the rebuilding Panthers (1-8) in another NFC showdown on Sunday afternoon at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
A FAMILY BUSINESS FOR BONES
The Cowboys have one of the best special teams cores in the NFL in punter Bryan Anger, kicker Brandon Aubrey, returner KaVontae Turpin and long snapper Trent Sieg. But it is special teams coordinator John Fassel that is the architect of the group that is having success on Sundays.
WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb continue to put up historical numbers, as both entered different records books in Sunday’s win over the New York Giants. They will try to keep it going on Sunday afternoon against the Panthers in Carolina. That and other bits of info from the Star in this edition of What’s Up Wednesday.
Pollard Better Suited As Sidekick
Cowboys running back Tony Pollard has seen his usage increase and his production go down since taking over as the lead back this season. He was more productive for Dallas as the sidekick, where he averaged 1.5 yards more a touch in his 31 games as the backup before this season.
Cowboys Pound Giants Into Submission
Here are my 5 observations from the Dallas Cowboys easy 49-17 NFC East win over the beat-up New York Giants on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Game Preview: NYG at DAL
The Dallas Cowboys (5-3) are out to bounce back from a divisional loss with another NFC East showdown when they take on the stumbling New York Giants (2-7) on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Get the info you need right here before kickoff.
By the Numbers: New York Giants
The Cowboys (5-3) look to bounce back from a divisional loss when they take on the stumbling Giants (2-7) in another NFC East showdown on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
PRESCOTT HAS OFFENSE ON A ROLL
Over the last three games, the offense that head coach Mike McCarthy installed in the offseason is starting to produce as he envisioned. Quarterback Dak Prescott’s play has improved, which has helped unlock part of his game that has been missing for several seasons.
WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
After coming up a few inches short of a victory in Philadelphia, the Dallas Cowboys head home, where they have won 11-straight regular season games, to take on the Giants on Sunday afternoon. That and other bits of info from the Star in this edition of What’s Up Wednesday.
Lamb Doing It All In Big D
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb went off in Philadelphia, but in the end, he was just a few yards short of it being a truly memorable performance. The Cowboys need another receiver to step up and help him if they are to rise to the top of the NFL.
Cowboys Inches Short In Comeback
Here are my 5 observations from the comeback that wasn’t for the Dallas Cowboys in their 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in the City of Brotherly Love.
Game Preview: DAL at PHI
The Dallas Cowboys (5-2) failed in their first big test of the season, a loss at San Francisco, but they can finally put that game behind them with a win over NFC East rival Philadelphia (7-1) on Sunday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love.
By the Numbers: Philadelphia
The Cowboys (5-2) go for a third-straight win when they take on the Eagles (7-1) in an NFC East showdown on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Sophomore Trio Shining For Cowboys
The Cowboys have asked DaRon Bland, Damone Clark and Markquese Bell to step up in their second seasons in the NFL, and all three have answered the challenge. The trio of defenders are playing in all situations, making big plays and thriving for the Dallas defense.
