Cowboys Coverage 2023: New Place, Same Face
Welcome to my Dallas Cowboys coverage for the 2023-24 season.
In the words of 5-11, 5-11 and 5-11 head coach Dave Campo, “Let’s have some football!”
Last year I covered the Cowboys for Gallery.com, but in the offseason the site went belly up. That’s what happens when the owner, a furniture mogul, and his son, a marketer for dad, think they know more about running a sports web site, than the people they hire to run it. So, here we are today. I have the same access. The same want to. So, why not keep going. That’s what’s great about how info is delivered and consumed these days.
So, I’m here to provide the same level of coverage, just from a different web address. I am doing it on my own dime, which with what I got paid last year at the above-mentioned failed web site, it is pretty much a wash. This season, I’m completely in charge of this space. There will be no punches pulled. I call it like I see it. It’s going to be old school sports journalism delivered with the speed of the internet.
What you can expect on game day, for those that are new here, is a set of quick observations just minutes after the game ends. Then, a quick analysis of the game the morning after. Every week there will be a game preview, a notebook and a few different other types of stories and listicles along the way. You will know what head coach Mike McCarthy has to say, as well as offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and special teams coordinator John Fassel, and of course the players.
What you won’t get is much from owner Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, or anybody in the Jones family. No matter what you ask them, they are going to give you an answer that probably has nothing to do with the question asked. I’m not here for that nonsense.
So, let’s focus on the football. Here is to a good 2023 season, with plenty to talk/write about.
I appreciate your clicks.
By the Numbers: Miami Dolphins
The Cowboys (10-4) continue their gauntlet through the final stretch of the season with another game against one of the top teams in the NFL when they take on the Miami Dolphins (10-4) on Christmas Eve afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
QUICK HIT WEDNESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is having a specials season, but that seems to be the norm for the fourth-year standout. Amid another strong season, he has already vaulted to top of one of the franchise’s receiving records.
O-Line Woes Continue On The Road
It was a rough afternoon in upstate New York for the Cowboys offensive line on Sunday. They were called for multiple penalties, while also getting abused in passing situations, as the offense sputtered and staggered for most of four quarters. If it doesn’t get fixed, it will be another short playoff run for Dallas.
Cowboys Cooked In Buffalo
Here are my 5 observations from the Dallas Cowboys 31-10 embarrassing loss on the road in upstate New York at the hands of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
Game Preview: DAL at BUF
The Dallas Cowboys (10-3) are set to begin the final stretch of the season with a touch road matchup with the Buffalo Bills (7-6) on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y. Get all the info you need right here before kickoff.
By the Numbers: Buffalo Bills
The Cowboys (10-3) begin the home stretch of the season with another game against a team in the push for a postseason spot when they take on the Buffalo Bills (7-6) on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.
COWBOYS STRIKE GOLD IN USFL
With a smooth swinging leg, Cowboys rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey continues to set NFL and team records every week. He has been so good, special teams coordinator John Fassel hasn’t even had to coach him, yet.
WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
Behind another sizzling performance from Dak Prescott and the offense, the Dallas Cowboys are coming off their biggest win of the season over Philadelphia. But the schedule doesn’t get any easier. That and other bits of info from the Star in this edition of What’s Up Wednesday.
TE Ferguson Has Skills For Longevity
The Cowboys have been blessed with some of the best tight ends in NFL history and now Jake Ferguson, in his second season, is showing some of the same skills and production as those that came before him. If he continues to improve, the Cowboys have found their tight end of the present and future.
Cowboys Grind Down Flightless Eagles
Here are my 5 observations from the Dallas Cowboys 33-13 primetime NFC East victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Game Preview: PHI at DAL
The Dallas Cowboys (9-3) are set for a primetime NFC East showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Get all the info you need right here before kickoff.
By the Numbers: Philadelphia Eagles
The Cowboys (9-3) go for another home win and a tie for the lead in the NFC East when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) in a battle for a possible homefield advantage in the playoffs on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
BIG PLAYS IN DNA OF COWBOYS DE
When the Cowboys needed him most, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence came up with multiple big stops in the final minutes of their win over the Seahawks. It is something that his coaches are used to seeing from the team’s veteran defensive leader.
WHAT’S UP WEDNESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
Since coming out of the bye week, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has put himself in the middle of the MVP conversation. He leads the NFL in two telling categories as the Cowboys ready for an NFC East showdown on Sunday night. That and other bits of info from the Star in this edition of What’s Up Wednesday.
Concern Rising for Cowboys O-Line
It has now been a little over a month since the five best Cowboys offensive linemen have been reunited in the starting lineup, but the struggles continue in the running game and pass protection. If they can’t find a way to fix these issues, then any berth in the postseason will be short lived.
Cowboys Emerge With Shootout Win
Here are my 5 observations from the Dallas Cowboys shootout win over the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC conference game on Thursday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
QUICK HIT TUESDAY: Cowboys Nuggets
Cornerback DaRon Bland not only set an NFL record for interceptions returned for touchdowns in a season, but it also put him in some rare company for defensive players with five or more touchdowns in a season. Can he add to it on Thursday night against Seattle at AT&T Stadium in Arlington? That and other bits of info from the Star in this special edition of What’s Up Wednesday.
By the Numbers: Seattle Seahawks
The Cowboys (8-3) go for a 14th straight win at home when they take on the Seattle Seahawks (6-5) on Thursday night at AT&T Stadium. Dallas last lost at home in the 2022 season opener against Tampa Bay.
Cowboys Continue Crushing Opponents
The Dallas Cowboys offense continues to have their way with opponents. In the last six games, the offense has picked up its production, while still getting very little meaningful contribution from the running game.
